Concerns mount over Paphos road project setbacks

Relevant News

The problems and delays in implementing the first phase of the new Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road were discussed with the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works by the Vice President of DIKO and Paphos MP, Chrysanthos Savvides, a few days after the parliamentary Transport Committee’s engagement with the issue.

As stated to PafosNet by Savvides, Alexis Vafeades assured him that he would immediately begin a round of discussions with the project’s consortium to overcome the problems that have arisen and ensure the smooth continuation of the province’s major project.

Vafeades fully understands the importance of the project and the negative impacts already being felt within the Paphos community from the new setback, emphasized Chrysanthos Savvides, and of course, neither he nor the government desires this development.

For these reasons, he said, Vafeades informed me during our meeting of the immediate arrangement of a meeting with the representatives of the construction company, in order to initiate solutions to the problems posed by the company and to ascertain areas where state intervention is possible.

Savvides estimated that government intervention and the resolution of the large project’s blockages are of paramount importance, not only for the successful promotion of the project itself but also to prevent another link in the chain of dissatisfaction prevailing in Paphos regarding significant projects facing delays.

Such a reaction is already being recorded regarding the lack of progress on the marina issue, as well as the refusal of relevant government departments to consent to the completion of the new road to Paphos Airport, Savvides observed.

Adding the issue of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous highway to this list would be very negative both in substance and in terms of impressions and popularity of the authorities, he concluded.

Meanwhile, both the issue of the new Paphos-Polis road and other pending matters in the province are expected to be raised before the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works during his visit to Paphos next Thursday and at the meeting he will attend at the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
