Archimandrite summoned for questioning over St Habakkuk assult

Relevant News

It is expected that within the day, Father Porphyrios, the Archimandrite of the Abbey of Habakkuk, will appear for questioning as a suspect in the assault of the woman in the monastery courtyard.

The self-initiated investigation by the Vulnerable Persons Management Division, which commenced following the release of the video showing a monk beating a woman with a belt and shouting “out,” continues despite Eleni Rousou’s refusal to lodge a complaint against the monk.

Rousou had stated in her posts that it was her own mistake and that the incident had ended the next day.

However, the Police summoned her to testify, and her lawyers had reported attempts by the investigators to pressure her into signing a complaint.

The investigators probing the incident had also called upon the abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Nektarios, who likewise did not provide any helpful information for the inquiries.

It is expected that today, Father Porphyrios will be interrogated regarding the contents of the video and will provide his own explanations, considering he will not invoke his right to silence.

The outcome of his testimony will determine the course of the case.

Nonetheless, the Police dossier regarding the assault incident is expected to be forwarded to the Legal Service for examination and guidance.
