Another boat with 32 migrants arrived in Cyprus – One arrest

Some 32 more people arrived last night from Lebanon in a boat spotted 22 nautical miles south of Cape Greco.

There were 19 men, 3 women, 7 unaccompanied minors, and 3 children.

The boat was initially spotted by the Republic’s radar at the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre. In the maritime area 22 nautical miles south of Cape Cape Greco where the boat was spotted, a shuttle of the Coast and Maritime Police rushed to the area.

The boat was found to have 32 people on board, 30 Syrians and 2 Palestinians. These were 19 men, 3 women, 7 unaccompanied minors, and 3 children, who were safely transported to the port of Larnaca where their details were recorded.

They were subsequently transferred to the Pournara Temporary Accommodation Centre for Migrants in Kokkinotrimithia.

Police proceeded to arrest a migrant as the alleged boat navigator.
