A sexual harassment complaint has been filed regarding an incident that took place inside the Saint Habakkuk Monastery, philenews reported on Tuesday.
The complainant, who previously had an association with the Monastery, came forward and reported the incident to the Police.
He provided a written statement detailing a past encounter that he had kept undisclosed for a significant amount of time.
This new complaint coincides with an ongoing investigation by the Holy Synod.
The Synod is currently examining allegations between Tamassos and Orini Bishop and the two highest-ranking monks (archimandrites) of the Monastery. The Metropolitan has accused the archimandrites of misconduct, while they have countersued with claims of threats and violence.
The authorities will investigate the new complaint while ensuring the complainant’s safety, following procedures established for similar cases.
The monks have refrained from commenting on the specifics but acknowledged the possibility that the complaint is fabricated to discredit the archimandrites.
