The AKEL party has reiterated its request for the convening of the National Council, indicating that the ongoing negotiation deadlock and recent developments by the occupying force in Pyla, Agios Dometios, and Deryneia are among the issues underscoring the need for a National Council meeting.
It further notes that President Christodoulides’ refusal to convene the National Council, as requested by AKEL since last week, reflects a stance that they prefer to believe does not constitute a decision to sideline the body.
The National Council serves as a platform for collective discussion and presentation of positions and assessments from each political force on the Cyprus issue.
While the President has the ultimate say in decisions and bears responsibility for them, AKEL insists on the urgency of convening the National Council.
