83-year-old falls victim to telephone scam

Relevant News

Yesterday afternoon, an 83-year-old woman in Nicosia fell victim to a telephone scam where fraudsters posed as doctors, managing to extract €650 from her.

The incident was reported to the police and is being investigated by the Nicosia CID.

According to the report made to the police by the 83-year-old, around 4 p.m. yesterday, she received a phone call on her landline from an unknown man.

The unknown caller allegedly asked her for money for a surgical operation that her grandson supposedly needed. A short while later, an unknown man visited the 83-year-old at her home, where he collected €650 from her.

In light of this incident, the police once again advise the public to exercise caution, emphasizing that such phone calls and claims are false and aim to deceive citizens and steal money.

They also urge the public that if they receive similar phone calls, to immediately inform the police by contacting the nearest Police Station or the District CID, or by calling the Citizen’s Line at 1460.
