Police investigate potential gang link in Nicosia restaurant shooting

Police are seeking two individuals in connection with a violent altercation on Stasikratous Street that involved firearms and resulted in grievous bodily harm.

The incident, which occurred early on May 7, is being investigated as a potential gang-related crime.

Investigators have identified the suspects as Gkiorgki Tsampratze, 18, and Nikolozi Kobiazvili, 30, both employees of the restaurant where the shooting took place.

Arrest warrants have been issued.

Police have also released a photo of an unidentified man sought in connection with the same offences.

According to witness testimony, a group of individuals of Arab descent attempted to enter the establishment after 3 a.m. but they were denied entry by one of the wanted suspects, who worked as security.

An altercation ensued, during which shots were fired and one individual was severely injured. Police recovered a revolver outside the premises and a pistol inside.

The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department is investigating charges of illegal firearm possession, explosives possession, and causing grievous bodily harm. 

Detectives are examining surveillance footage and witness accounts.

The investigation remains open, with all potential motives and scenarios under consideration.

Police are also examining the business activities of the establishment and the roles played by the victim and his associates.
