26-year-old handed twelve-year sentence for cannabis trafficking

A 26-year-old defendant was handed 12 years in prison by Limassol District Court today, for possession with intent to supply to others.

The young man was found on the afternoon of July 28, 2023, to have within his car 29 bags containing approximately 29 kilograms of cannabis.

Despite initially maintaining silence towards the investigators of the Limassol Narcotics Squad regarding the large quantity of drugs, the 26-year-old admitted to the serious charges he faced during the court hearing at the Limassol Court.

The Limassol Court imposed a 12-year prison sentence on the defendant for possession with intent to supply 29 kilograms of cannabis.

Another 33-year-old individual from Liopetri was also arrested in connection with the case; however, as per information obtained by philenews, proceedings against the 33-year-old have been suspended.

According to information received by the Limassol Narcotics Squad, the 26-year-old was acting as a transporter and had received the quantity of narcotics from the Famagusta province.

Members of the Limassol Narcotics Squad tracked down the 26-year-old following an assessment of information indicating his involvement in the trade and trafficking of large quantities of drugs and that he had received a large quantity on the same day.

As part of the information investigation, members of the Narcotics Squad intercepted the vehicle driven by the defendant on the Nicosia-Limassol highway, near the Agia Fyla roundabout, at 16:00.

Following a search, 29 nylon packages containing approximately 29 kilograms of cannabis and a sum of €940 were found and seized inside the vehicle.
