Limassol Municipality has issued a call for tenders from architects for the upgrading of the historic Heroes Square, Phileleftheros reports today.
Heroes Square is the first in a series of planned infrastructure projects in the area that aim to upgrade its status while maintaining its historic character.
The Municipality said that the project aims to showcase the Square as emblematic of the city’s history and to connect it with other historic locations nearby.
The tender announcement invites architects to identify other historic landmarks in the area that require rejuvenation and to also suggest buildings that could be listed as heritage sites by the Town Planning and Housing Department.
The Municipality’s plan also stipulates strict traffic regulations for the area, including rules safeguarding pedestrians and cyclists.
Limassol mayor Nicos Nicolaides said that he wants the area to become a point of reference for Limassolians and a centre for social interaction and activities that satisfy the needs of residents in the wider urban zone.
