Limassol’s temporary casino, which opened its doors on June 28, is proving more popular with Cypriots than foreign visitors, Phileleftheros reported on Thursday.
It said that besides the Cypriot visitors, a large number of Greeks, Ukrainians, Russians, Britons, Italians and Lebanese are visiting the C2 casino with weekends particularly popular.
According to the newspaper within the first two weeks 5,000 have signed up as members, to the satisfaction of the ICRC consortium which operates Cyprus’ first licensed casino. Signing up as a member is not compulsory.
The temporary casino operates on a 24 hour basis. It has a total area of 4,600 square metres, a capacity of 1000 and is projected to host 25,000 visitors monthly.
Housed at the old Orphanides supermarket, it will operate until 2021 when the integrated casino resort City of Dreams Mediterranean which is currently under construction will open its doors.
Meanwhile, airport operator Hermes and ICRC, made up Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited and Cyprus Phassouri (Zakaki) Limited, member of the CNS group, are expected to sign an agreement in the next few days for the operation of a satellite casino at Larnaca Airport.
