Larnaca: Suspected burglar breaks ankle in attempted getaway

A  35 year old man is under arrest after he broke his ankle jumping from a pergola in an attempt to get away after breaking into a house in the Larnaca district.

Police said they are investigating a house burglary and theft.

They said that on returning home at 8.20 pm on Sunday night, a resident saw two men exiting the first floor of his house by jumping on to a pergola and from there to the ground. One of them injured his foot and was immobilised while the other one ran away.

Police who went to the scene determined that the suspect is a 35 year old permanent resident of Cyprus. In his possession police found valuables and two watches which were stolen from the house.

The man was arrested and taken to Larnaca Hospital where doctors diagnosed he had broken his right ankle and he remains in hospital under police guard for treatment.
