Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras has asked Trasport Minister Yiannis Karousos to relocate the town’s central post office at Vasileos Pavlou Square to ease congestion and allow better use of the area.
The mayor told the Cyprus News Agency that the post office’s current location in the commercial centre, near the coastal front created serious environmental and traffic issues.
Moreover, the need for parking space for the post office’s vehicles takes up valuable public space in the area which could be used in a way that promotes sustainable development and mobility, he added.
The municipality’s sustainable urban mobility plan proposes developing a square that could be co-financed with EU funds.
He added that the municipality wanted the post office moved to a suitable lcoation that will serve the town and favoured the idea of operating a small post office with post office boxes either there, or somewhere else that may be suggested.
