A 46 year old man was jailed for 14 years on Wednesday for sexually abusing four underage girls.
Larnaca Criminal Court also prohibited him for 20 years from taking up any employment that involves children or in locations frequented by children and to live at or close to areas frequented by children.
The defendant had pleaded guilty to the offences, committed between July 2014 and August 2017 in the Larnaca district.
The court said the offences violated laws on preventing and combating sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.
According to the court, the defendant had exposed and touched his sexual organs and shown pornographic material to some of the underage victims. He had also taken a pornographic video of one of his victims. He was not charged with distributing this video to third parties.
In its decision, the Criminal Court said that in passing sentence it had taken into consideration the defendant’s clean record and his guilty plea. This resulted in the victims not having to be called to testify in court, which is a mitigating factor, it said.
