‘Keep your hands on the wheel’

If you are using your mobile phone while driving, you’re putting yourself and others in danger. Keep your hand on the steering wheel. Not only is it dangerous, the police have just announced a new campaign for distracted drivers.

From Monday October 29 until November 4, traffic police will be on the lookout for drivers who cannot resist texting or answering their mobile phones while driving, or holding any other object behind the wheel.

According to the police it is recorded internationally that distraction is ranked high as one of the main reasons for traffic accidents. When the driver is not focused on the road his or her response time in the event of an emergency is drastically reduced.
