Israeli travel agents are to come to Cyprus in a bid to reach agreement with counterparts on joint theme tourism packages at the initiative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism which is now drafting their visit’s programme.
This step was preceded by a recent visit of Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios (photo) to the neighbouring country which aimed to pave the way for communication channels to open. Israel is the first country where talks for joint theme packages are at an advanced level.
“Overseas partners will be contacted before the end of the year, and depending on the outcome, joint tourism theme packages will be promoted,” ACTA President Vasilis Stamataris told Phileleftheros.
“The talks will clarify the type of tourist packages to be promoted, depending on demand…the ground has already be laid by Deputy Minister Perdios,” he added.
Perdios’ talks with an Israeli delegation has confirmed that gastronomy is very important for both destinations and could be the basis for a single excursion package to both countries.
At the same time, a second joint package under discussion could bring tourists to Cyprus for golf and to Israel for health and wellness. In addition, the two parties agreed to step up cooperation in the field of cruise tourism and to jointly participate at tourism fairs promoting cruises.
Apart from Israel, the Deputy Ministry aims to reach deals on theme packages with four other neigbouring countries – Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Greece. Consultations have already began at the highest level of government officials.
