Tourist arrivals in Cyprus experienced a 21.1% surge during the initial ten months of this year, as per data disclosed on Friday by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat).
In a press release, CyStat said that tourist arrivals reached 426,272 in October 2023, in contrast to 400,628 in October 2022, marking a 6.4% increase.
For the period spanning January to October 2023, tourist arrivals amassed 3,562,417, in comparison to 2,941,182 during the corresponding period in 2022, signifying a growth of 21.1%, as added by CyStat.
Official data highlights that the United Kingdom was the primary source of tourism for October 2023, accounting for 36.2% (154,373) of total arrivals, followed by Germany at 7.1% (30,178) and Poland at 6.7% (28,649).
In October 2023, 82.5% of visitors were in Cyprus for leisure, 10.9% for visiting friends and relatives, and 6.4% for business. Comparatively, in October 2022, 83.1% visited Cyprus for leisure, 11.5% for visiting friends or relatives, and 5.3% for business.
Simultaneously, 131,327 residents of Cyprus returned from trips abroad in October 2023, a 9.9% increase from the corresponding month in the previous year (119,466).
The primary countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in October 2023 were Greece, constituting 34.1% (44,795), the United Kingdom at 8.2% (10,751), and Italy at 6.2% (8,176).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in October 2023 was predominantly holidays, accounting for 65.1%, with business reasons at 30.0%, studies at 2.2%, and other reasons at 2.8%.
