Tourism revenue in first 9 months 2019 down an annual 1.5%

Tourism revenue in September was €377.2 m, marginally down by 0.4% on €378.8 m in the same month the previous year as holidaymakers spent fewer days in Cyprus, the Statistical Service said on Tuesday citing the results of the Passenger Survey.

Revenue for January – September 2019 revenue from tourism slipped 1.5% over the same period last year to an estimated €2.234 b compared from an estimated €2.268 b.

Expenditure per person for September was €718.81 compared to €728.23 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 1.3%.

The expenditure per person/per day for September 2019 compared to September 2018 recorded an increase of 3.0% (from €76.66 to €78.99). A decrease of 4.2% was recorded in the average length of stay, from 9.5 days in September 2018 to 9.1 days in September 2019.

The expenditure per person for the period of January – September 2019 reached €685.15 compared to €700.21 in the corresponding period of the previous year, recording a decrease of 2.2%.

The expenditure per person/per day for the period of January – September 2019 compared to the period of January – September 2018 recorded an increase of 1.1% (from €75.29 to €76.13).
