The Tax Department has returned up to €53 million to 212,689 payers between 2017 and 2019 in a bid to sort out pending obligations towards thousands of citizens, Phileleftheros reports.
And after the recent introduction of its modern computerised system, the Department is carrying out electronic tax returns through bank transfers, giving an end to the issuance of bank checks.
Out of total taxes returned – VAT and direct taxation – €48.3 million has been deposited in bank accounts of 210,040 pensioners and €4.7 million to 9,649 self-employed.
The Department has recorded the clearing of most of the accounts until the tax year 2012 over the last two years. Specifically, out of the total tax refunds to 219,689 payers, those to 119,532 persons which amounted to €26.9 million concerned 2012.
Specifically:
-In 2012, €25.3 million was returned to 115,378 retired employees and €1.5 million to 4,124 to self-employed.
-For 2013 fiscal year, a total of 78,134 taxpayers got back €16.8 million, of which €15.6 million was given to 73,936 retired employees and € 1.2 million to 4,198 self-employed.
-Another 11,630 taxpayers received back a total of €3.2 million for tax year 2014. Specifically, 10,617 retired employees received taxes of €2.9 million and 1,013 self-employed a total of €371,300.
-For tax year 2015, €1.89 million was returned to 4,572 persons, of which €207,900 were granted to 124 self-employed and €1.6 million to 4,448 pensioners.
-For tax year 2016, refunds varied with 4,539 taxpayers receiving an amount of €1.89 million.
-For tax year 2017, €1.2 million was returned to 871 taxpayers, where €880,700 was given to 844 pensioners and €403,800 to 27 self-employed.
-For 2018, a total of €978,200 was returned to 336 tax payers. Of these, 9 were self-employed and received €786,200, that is, the average tax refund corresponding to each taxpayer was approximately €87,300.
– For 2019, tax of €53,200 has been returned to 75 taxpayers. A self-employed person received the amount of just €13 and the rest went back to employees.
