Registered unemployed in Cyprus record annual drop, monthly increase in March

Registered unemployed in Cyprus recorded an annual drop of 0.6% this March but a monthly increase of 3.2%, data released by Cyprus Statistical Service, on Monday, show.

In particular, according to a press release published in the CyStat website the unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of March 2020, reached 26,353 persons.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for March 2020 increased to 21,668 persons in comparison to 20,989 in the previous month, the press release reads.

In comparison with March 2019, it says, a decrease of 155 persons or 0.6% was recorded, attributed mainly to the sectors of public administration (a decrease of 405), construction (a decrease of 294), financial and insurance activities (a decrease of 282), trade (a decrease of 185), manufacturing (a decrease of 170), transportation and storage (a decrease of 88)and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 620) as well as to the increase of 1,513 persons recorded in the sector of accommodation and food service activities.
