A total of 295 new promotions in the public sector of Cyprus will probably be approved on Monday by the House Finance Committee.
Most of them, 246 in particular, concern teachers while the rest are for employees at the island’s central prison, Electricity Authority of Cyprus and other services.
Promotions in the education sector apply to all directorates and are to come in effect as of September 1, 2020.
Specifically, the Directorate of Primary Education has 57 proposed promotion positions. Three are of A13 (ii) salary scale, 13 are of supervisory level A12 (ii) and another 19 are for head masters and deputy head masters A11 (ii).
The remaining promotions include nine posts for A12 (ii) Pre-Primary Education Headmasters, ten Pre-Primary Assistant Headmasters A11(ii), and one for Special Education Headmaster (A12 scale).
The Secondary-level Education Directorate has 155 proposed promotions and the Directorate for Secondary-level Technical and Vocational Education and Training another 31.
The island’s Pedagogical Institute is calling for the unfreezing of promotions of three professor-level posts. At the same time, 25 promotions concern the Ministry of Justice – 21 are for chief prison wardens and four for supervisors.
The EAC has a total of 21 proposed promotions concerning technical supervisors or senior engineers, network supervisors, senior technical engineers and a worker.
