Larnaca port workers strike over labour agreement breach

Relevant News

Since this morning, the workers at the operational department of Larnaca port have been striking indefinitely, alleging a breach of agreement regarding their working hours and overtime employment.

The employees, supported by the unions SEK and PEO, demand adherence to the agreement by the contracting company. As stated to philenews by the general secretary of SEGDAMELIN PEO Larnaca, Nadia Kyritsi, “the company violates the agreement on working hours and overtime employment by not using its own personnel but external collaborators.”

According to Kyritsi, there was an agreement on the procedure to be followed, which was signed on February 9, 2024, after the strike of the logistics department.

“The agreement stipulates that the working hours are 7:30-15:30 and when overtime work is needed, employees of the respective department must respond in writing. If they cannot, employees from another department of Kition Ocean Port are used.”
