Cyprus to issue new six-year bonds with increased interest rates

Slightly increased interest rates for the first two years will be offered by the new six-year bonds that the Republic of Cyprus will issue.

Specifically, for the annual nominal interest rate for the first 24 months of the new bonds, it rises to 1.25% from 1.00% compared to the six-year bonds of the previous series.

The annual nominal interest rate shows slight differences for the remainder of their term, with a small increase for the period from 24 to 48 months and a slight decrease for the remaining periods.

In more detail, the Public Debt Management Office has recently announced that the interest rates of the six-year nominal government bonds for individual investors (hereinafter “bonds”), starting with the 2nd series (July) of 2024, for which applications will be accepted in June 2024, will yield annual interest rates as presented below:

The weighted average annual interest rate, in case of holding the bond until maturity (6 years), amounts to approximately 1.367% (1.366667%).
