Hotels in towns more likely to open first

Relevant News

Hotels in the cities are more likely to open first, rather those in resorts, the president of the Famagusta branch of the Cyprus Hotels Association Doros Takkas told Philelftheros.

He said that the situation varied depending on the location and business model of hotels.

Hotels in cities may operate with conferences, seminars, events and weddings as part they operate also as business hotels. This is more difficult in Paphos, Ayia Napa and Protaras, he said.

“The initial estimate is that there are more possibilities that city rather than tourist hotels open first,” he said.

Asked what will happen to hotel staff should some units not open, Takkas said that as hotels that do open will have lower occupancy there will be a section of people who will be jobless both there and from those that do not open at all.

He said some hotels would bring personnel from abroad. “These employees will not come this year and local staff will be hired for the months in which hotels operate,” he said.
