A patient with a heart condition remained in the ER section of the Nicosia General Hospital for 20 hours due to a disagreement among clinic heads regarding which specialty would receive him due to the complexity of his condition. Due to increased number of patients and huge problems that appeared on Friday evening at the ER, but also on Saturday, the Patients’ Federation called for an extraordinary meeting requesting explanations.
President of the Patients’ Federation Marios Kouloumas said problems have not been resolved, doctors do whatever they want and as a result patients suffer. He noted that this situation cannot be accepted and called on the Health Minister, who is responsible, to undertake initiatives that will facilitate the access of citizens to health services.
He noted that OKYPY is even more responsible for this situation since it had the role and the jurisdiction to eradicate the problems.
