Several union and activist groups will demonstrate in Athens on Wednesday afternoon to mark the 48th anniversary of the 1973 Athens Polytechnic uprising against Greece’s former military dictatorship.
The activists will march from the Propylaea to the US Embassy in the heart of the capital.
Authorities will take additional security measures throughout Athens and other areas such as anarchist Exarcheia and run-down Omonia Square etc.
Police are also considering suspending for a few hours metro services and carry out road closures and movement restrictions in these areas.
Anniversary demonstrations in previous years have turned violent with security services using riot control measures such as tear gas and water cannon against unruly crowds.
