Government labour force increased by 0.9%

In February 2019 the government labour force increased by 460 persons (0.9%) in comparison with the corresponding month of 2018 and reached 52,009 persons, according to a press release issued by the Statistical Service.

Permanent staff decreased by 566 persons (-1.6%). Casual staff increased by 6,5% and reached 16,891 persons compared to 15,865 persons in February 2018.

Compared to February 2018 there is an increase in all the categories of government labour force except in the category of Hourly Paid Workers. The largest increase is observed in Education (1.8%) in which the casual staff increased by 12.8% (423 persons).

Compared to January 2019, the staff of the Civil Service increased by 0.2% (31 persons), the number of persons in Education by 0.2% (24 persons) and the Hourly Paid Workers by 11.6% (871 persons) while the Security Forces decreased by -0.2% (-30 persons).
