Four men are in police custody for resisting arrest and assaulting police officers who were booking them for breaking the lockdown.
Police said that the incident occurred in old Nicosia on Tuesday evening.
They said that 15 men, all foreign nationals, were playing football in an open area.
When police tried to book them, one of them spat at the police officer and the other pushed the officer. Both also resisted arrest. Police reinforcements were brought in and two others who tried to help the two under arrest to get away were also detained.
All four will appear in court today for violating the decree and resisting arrest, the police spokesman said.
Overall, 74 people were booked for breaking the movement restriction decree from 6 pm on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday. A total of 3490 drivers and pedestrians were checked.
In Limassol yesterday afternoon, 21 men were fined for playing football in violation of the lockdown.
