First tourists in Cyprus expected in mid-May, hopes for a good season rising

First tourists in Cyprus are expected in mid-May with local authorities hoping that June to October will record satisfactory enough numbers to make it a good enough season.

Mayor of popular holiday resort of Ayia Napa Christos Zanettou told Philenews they also hope the tourist season this year will get extended up to November.

“If everything goes smoothly, we hope to reach a significant percentage of tourism at least from June to October – compared to 2019 which was a good tourist season,” he said.

“However, there is optimism that if everything goes smoothly with the coronavirus pandemic then November is expected to be included in the summer months,” he added.

The vaccination of population in many European countries, but also worldwide, has sparked a positive feeling among tourist operators of the Famagusta free area.

As for tourism-related businesses in Ayia Napa, the Mayor said that a significant number remained closed in 2020 due to the pandemic. And that the internal district area of the resort was badly affected.
