Cyprus police handed a total of 140 fines to individuals plus two to owners of premises over the past 24 hours for violating measures against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The number of the latest fines was highest in days where not more than 100 had been issued.
A police spokesperson also told CNA they had carried out 5,428 checks including ones in churches due to Epiphany Day celebrations on Wednesday.
In Nicosia, 1,929 checks led to 23 individuals getting fines, in Limassol 55 individuals and two premises were fined after 622 checks and in Laranca 21 individuals were fined after 1,272 checks.
In Paphos, 751 checks led to 15 individuals getting fines, in Famagusta 604 checks led to seven individuals getting fines whereas in Morphou nine individuals were booked after 232 inspections.
Port Police also carried out 18 checks with no violations reported.
