Festive gatherings could be restricted in number because of Omicron

Covid-19 experts in Cyprus are sending the message that festive Christmas and New Year’s gatherings in face of Omicron could be restricted in number.

As Omicron cases are on the increase and a new wave threatens to overshadow Christmas, scientists advising the government are making calculations about participants in festivities.

At the same time, even though no mention of words like “lockdown” and “curfew” are made it is still uncertain whether things will stay that way, Philenews reported on Monday.

In fact, announcements on additional restrictive measures are expected to be made on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting.

For the time being, businesses such as bars, cafes and hotels can have up to 300 people indoors with a SafePass as it is prescribed in the latest decree Or 500 fully vaccinated patrons or recently recovered – that is, within the past six months.

For outdoor areas, the number of people on a SafePass basis rises to 350 but remains 500 for fully vaccinated patrons or recently recovered.

Moreover, the unvaccinated are not permitted in any of the above venues plus theatres, stadiums and the like – as from last Wednesday.

In addition, the SafePass of those without a booster is no longer valid once seven months pass from their second shot – as from Friday.
