Dr Petros Karayiannis, a member of the team of experts consulting President Nicos Anastasiades on Coronavirus, said on Thursday that among the team’s latest recommendations to the government was the mandatory use of face masks.
Speaking to state radio on Thursday morning, Karayiannis explained that the face mask should be a prerequisite during exchanges and that every citizen should wear one for as long as they are in contact with another person.
He added that the mask is not necessary for physical exercise, although such use would be ‘good’.
On the lifting of restrictions, Karayiannis mentioned that it will begin from the least ‘dangerous’ professions.
“We have put safeguards in place for each profession,” he said, adding that the easing of measures is dependent on the number of cases in the coming days and given that no transmissions will have resulted from potential transgressions during the Easter period.
On gatherings, he said that those will come in the second phase of the exit strategy and will be of a small scale.
On Wednesday, the ‘foreign minister’ of the Turkish-held north announced that the use of face mask will be obligatory there starting tomorrow.
