EU new directive in effect as from Thursday aims to further protect consumers

The EU’s Digital Content and Services Directive which came in effect on Thursday aims to protect further the bloc’s consumers.

The legislation was passed at the end of 2019 and in early 2020 aiming to deal with the supply of digital content to consumers.

It will apply to digital services from January 1, 2022 and to all goods supplied to consumers under contracts concluded from this date.

The Directive amends four existing EU consumer protection Directives.

It introduces new information obligations on online traders and new categories of contract – digital services and goods with digital elements.
