An emergency exercise was successfully completed on Thursday at Larnaca International Airport with the participation of governmental and non-governmental departments and services, operating in the airport.
According to the exercise scenario, a fire alarm sensor was activated in the departure gates area. Within minutes, a fire broke out and smoke started to originate from the area. The smoke affected the gates and duty-free area, and emergency procedures for the evacuation of the terminal were activated immediately.
The exercise was part of the ongoing efforts to improve the level of readiness and coordination of all the airport services involved during emergency situations.
“Hermes Airports expresses its satisfaction concerning the outcome of the exercise. All the findings will be evaluated, in order to further improve the emergency response levels and the overall performance of the various services during such incidents,” a press release says.
