Eftychia Andreou

Journalist and presenter Eftychia Andreou reveals her favourite spots for food, coffee and drinks in Cyprus.

-Where do you usually enjoy your morning coffee?

-Morning coffee is a big luxury. I really enjoy it on lazy, sunny Sundays on my veranda while the others are still sleeping.

-Which is your favorite city yard?

-My mother’s in-law yard. The best Cypriot cuisine, service, atmosphere and company.

-Where can you find the best souvlaki?

-At Kyriacos’, whose name is Andreas in Aglandjia. Sixteen steps (I counted them) from my home. The best souvlaki in Nicosia.

-Where do you find authentic meze dishes?

-At Zanettos. A tradition. It’s not just the food, it’s the whole experience. From the welcoming rosewater to the shot for goodbye.

-Favorite shop in your neighborhood?

-I don’t like to repeat myself but I’ll say Kyriacos’ again. His souvlaki and company always fill you up.

-Could you reveal a well-hidden city gem?

-The many different spots where you can have a picnic. You might not notice them on weekdays but on sunny weekends they are hidden secrets for new experiences and unique meals.

-A restaurant that holds a special place in your heart? A recommended dish?

-Ammos in Mackenzie, Larnaca. A small getaway which offers great and filling gastronomical choices. My personal favourite is the grilled octopus. Pulpo de amor.

-Which is your favorite kind of cuisine and where you can enjoy it in Cyprus?

-I can’t say that I have a favourite kind of cuisine… However I have a soft spot for Asian food. The best place to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine is Uncle Wu, prepared by the “uncle” himself.

-The best place to hang out with friends?

-My and my friends, for years now, have been hanging out at The Gym on Onasagorou, either for coffee, breakfasts, a meal or drinks.

-Where could you find the best cocktails?

-At Patio the the centre of the old city. A flaming Bloody Mary and a hot atmosphere.

-Where do you usually find delightful sweets? 

-At Boutique Patisserie. Always with alternative tastes. Now if we’re talking about filo pastries, all roads lead to Yiayia Victoria. Cypriot coffee and kourkoumbinia… the ultimate combination!

-Which place do you remember fondly?

-Cavo Greco in Ayia Napa. For almost two decades now, this dreamy viewpoint creates my realest smiles.
