Arakapas is a village in the Limassol District of Cyprus, located 5 km west of Eptagoneia

The village is named after the first settler Arokopos, or Arokopas chich means ‘wood cutter’, who discovered the blessed water of Vergin Mary in the area and later built on the site the church of Panagia Iamatiki. On the 8th of September, (the date of Virgin Mary’s birthday), the church attracts thousands of pilgrims and merchants who come to the festival to sell their products. The village was part of the big commandery of the Knights of the order of St. John of Jerusalem. If you visit the new church, don’t miss the unique icon of Virgin Mary which is painted on leather. The old church of Panagia Iamatiki is 100 meters from the new one. The phone number of Mrs Androula Aspri, the person who opens the church, is posted on the door of the new church.
