Direct flights from Cyprus to Paris, Marseilles spark forged travel documents situation

Direct flights from Cyprus to Paris and Marseilles have sparked an unprecedented situation of a rising number of forged travel documents by nationals mainly from African countries.

This is what Philenews reported on Monday, adding that people of African descent carrying fake travel documents are trying to fly to France as European citizens.

And that this is the case in almost every pre-flight passport check at Paphos Airport where the direct flights recently began.

In particular, police detected on time and arrested over  25 people with forged passports in just two months.

And all detainees were from African countries – mainly from Congo and Nigeria. The travel documents were genuine but belonged to other persons.

Some of them admitted they had bought the documents from the breakaway northern part of Cyprus, others said they had coincidentally found them after their rightful owners lost the.

And some others said these were given to them by people they knew.
