Intervention by the Cyprus Natural Coastline organisation

Relevant News

Tomorrow, the environmental organisations that came forward in the past few days and exposed wrongdoing in the Akamas National Forest Park were summoned to a meeting by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment.

The meeting was scheduled by the Minister and will take place in the presence of the experts who will make presentations and inform the environmental organisations. It is noted that the experts, who will answer the questions of the environmental organisations, have consistently asserted until today that there is no violation of the terms set during the assessment of the Sustainable Development Plan for the Akamas National Forest Park.

However, the Cyprus Natural Coastline organisation, which conducted an on-site visit and made significant findings, in its intervention on social media, stated the following as a preliminary comment on the statements of the Minister of Agriculture: “The legally binding terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment (also known as Special Ecological Study) define the final construction plans of a project, and the final construction plans of a project do not redefine (that is, do not alter) the legally binding terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment.”

We anticipate that the recipients of this intervention will promptly grasp the message of this brief yet comprehensive intervention before it is too late.
