Anger is prevailing among drivers in Larnaca due to the issuance of €300 fines for violating the red light on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue, where a photo-enforcement system has been installed.
According to citizens who contacted Phileleftheros, the time given to make a right turn is minimal, resulting in them being photographed by the camera as it is considered they violated the red light.
Regarding the issue, as we have learned, the Traffic Police in Larnaca has received numerous complaints since December 15, 2023, when the cameras began operating.
These complaints were forwarded to the Department of Public Works, which is responsible, but as it seems, no action has been taken.
The issue must be examined immediately, and if there is indeed an error in the setting, all fines issued for this specific violation should be cancelled.
It is unacceptable, especially in a time when inflation has strained households financially, for citizens to pay for such mistakes.
