The status quo in the buffer zone in the Deryneia area remains intact, stated Aleem Siddique, the spokesperson for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), on Thursday.
He addressed concerns raised about construction projects in the region, noting that the UN is investigating the situation.
When asked about the matter, Mr. Siddique mentioned, “We are aware of the concerns expressed by the local Mayor, and we are investigating the situation.”
“I can confirm that the status quo within the buffer zone remains unchanged, and any construction activities are taking place outside the buffer zone,” he added.
The Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, responded on Wednesday to allegations by the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, regarding the construction of fortification works.
