New firefighter technology that uses more effective tracking methods is something Cyprus is not equipped with but should be, experts told Philenews.
The criticism came days only after a deadly fire which went down as the worst one in the Mediterranean island’s recent history.
“There are programmes that can carry out forecasts in real time,” said Yiannis Proestos who is a researcher at the Cyprus Institute’s Department of Environmental Predictions.
These tools help in effort to extinguish fires and best protect citizens who are warned promptly to evacuate homes and specific areas.
“If you know where the wind will blow, the terrain, the existence of residential areas and other relevant information then you can use them in a simulation that will make an effective forecast,” he added.
