Cyprus ranks 2nd among 29 European countries in COVID-19 tests per 100,000 people, according to figures released by European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The figures, as a press release issued by the Press and Information Office says, highlight the great effort of the authorities for epidemiological tests, since the spread of the pandemic.
Cyprus, following the guidelines of the ECDC, supported the Centre`s strategy for the management of the coronavirus pandemic with increased tests targeted both at specific population groups and in the community.
The authorities point out that the tests in workplaces, in closed units and elsewhere, via PCR and rapid tests aim at continuously testing the population in order to have a better epidemiological surveillance, and therefore to detect the positive cases and isolate them.
According to the ECDC, the implementation of the practice of increased community testing in combination with other measures, contribute to the reduction of figures and allow, at the end, the gradual relaxation of the restrictions in place.
