Cyprus along with Greece, Lebanon, Egypt, Bulgaria and Portugal have founded an international sports and tourism organisation, a press release of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism said on Friday.

The decision to establish the International Sports & Tourism Organisation for Peace & Prosperity (ISTO for P&P), was announced in the framework of a trilateral meeting among Cyprus’ Deputy Minister Savvas Perdios, Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura and Lebanon’s Minister of Tourism Avedis Guidanian, in Beirut, on April 10.

“The main objective of the Organisation is to promote global peace and prosperity through sports and tourism, factors that inspire and mobilise a large part of the world`s citizens. Among other things, the Organisation will also promote sustainable development, social cohesion, gender equality, economic cooperation, etc. “, the press release noted.

The proposal was an initiative of Greece’s Minister of Tourism, it added. The Organisation will be based in Athens and upon its establishment it will be placed under the World Tourism Organisation of the United Nations.
