Mission Tradition Cyprus, a European Solidarity Corps project under the umbrella of NGO Youth for Exchange and Understanding Cyprus (YEU) is organising a cultural visit to Lefkara to discover the local traditions of Lefkaritiko lace-making, silversmithing, and the culinary tradition of Tavas.
Participants will have the opportunity to make their own Lefkara lace and take their creations home, and taste traditionally prepared Tavas.
The day trip will take place on April 4.
PROGRAMME OF THE DAY:
Meeting time: 8:40 a.m.
Departure time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: 27 Ezekia Papaioannou, 1075 Nicosia
10:00: Arrival in Lefkara
10.15: Introductory speech and screening of documentary on lace manufacturing
10.30: Silversmithing demonstration
11:00: Lefkaritiko workshop
12:00: Coffee and snack break*
12.30: Continuation of Lefkaritiko workshop
13:30: Lunch break at local taverna House 1923 and tasting of traditionally prepared Tavas
15:00: Tour of the village conducted by Andreas Shoshilos, president of the Cultural Organization of Lefkara and former mayor of Lefkara village
16:00: Coffee break
17:00: Departure to Nicosia
*The coffee and snacks are free and offered by the Municipality of Lefkara
**The attendance fee is €17 and it includes all the activities offered, a portion of Tavas plus the bus fare. If you do not wish to include the Tavas tasting in your trip, the price for the ticket is €10.
***A minimum of 25 people are needed for the Tavas tasting. If that number is not reached, the tasting will be cancelled and the money reimbursed. In that case the trip will take place with the above-planned activities, minus the tasting.
