A total of 1000 national guard conscripts will be tested for coronavirus when they report for duty in the next few days as authorities continue to keep a close eye on the epidemiological situation.
The decision was taken by Cabinet following a proposal submitted by Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
A total of 1000 tests will be held islandwide. Not all conscripts will be tested. All will have a right participate in the programme but priority will go to those who did not undergo a test as part of the Education Ministry’s programme of 20,000 pupils, teachers and school staff.
Coordination of the programme (distribution of tests by district) and selection of participants will be carried out by the Defence Ministry in consultation with the labs that will be taking part in the programme.
