There is no risk of contracting Coronavirus from swimming pools, which opened today, member of the team of experts advising the government Petros Karayiannis said on Friday, according to philenews.
“I don’t see a risk of contracting the virus at swimming pools. If the protocols are adhered to I don’t see any grounds for concern. The protocols are more stringent than I anticipated so if people follow them everything will be fine,” he said.
Karayannis noted that the virus is not transmitted through water let alone water with chlorine.
“The protocol is quite thorough. The things mentioned in it should have been taking place at pools already and I believe many people adhered to them as far as personal hygiene is concerned. Now we also have the distancing and additional monitoring measures,” he said.
Asked if there are concerns for the full lifting of the cap on gatherings on September 1, Karayiannis said that “this was a concern for the temporary phase which is why it has been pushed back to September. I hope the epidemiological picture in September allows this to happen. If we don’t have cases in the community then these large weddings could also take place with more safety.”
