Covid-19: A round-up of the latest developments in Cyprus

32,000 employees are due to return to work this week as Phase Two of the lockdown easing on May 21 draws near.

Sample taking has started today as part of a Health Ministry programme to test 10,000 employees of businesses due to reopen on Thursday.

Positive cases remained low over the weekend with four testing positive on Saturday (all from schools – two staff and two pupils) and two on Sunday.

The Aradippou upper secondary school where the two pupils tested positive was disinfected on Sunday and reopened today.

Police checks were stepped up on the coast during a sizzling weekend, with 18 beachgoers booked on Saturday for decree violations and another 49 on Sunday at beaches across the island.

Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said on Friday afternoon that only primary and lower secondary schools will reopen on May 21.

Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides will take part in a video conference today with EU counterparts to discuss the resumption of travel between member states.

Meanwhile, more than 2000 Cypriot students have signed up to return to their universities in Greece, but it remains uncertain when they will be able to do so.

In the latest Health Ministry infographics, Paphos remains the district with the highest incidence of locally acquired coronavirus cases per 100,000 people and Limassol the lowest.

And finally, drive-in cinema and open air concerts are being organised by Rialto theatre in Limassol.
