The Council of Ministers will hold an extraordinary meeting on Sunday to discuss and approve an economic package to alleviate the pressure on the economy from the coronavirus epidemic, Government Spokesman Kyriacos Koushos has announced.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 local time.
“The Council will discuss and approve the package drafted by the Ministry of Finance regarding measures to support the economy, small and medium sized enterprises, tourism and other (sectors),” Koushos said in a written statement.
He added that furthermore, the Council will discuss and also approve measures tabled by the Ministry of Labour regarding employment relations, jobs, support to vulnerable groups of the population, parents who should stay at home to take care of their children, as well as the support to employees who will not go to work due to the coronavirus epidemic.
“Depending on the developments and evaluations carried out on a daily basis, the Council of Ministers may also deal with other measures concerning prevention of the spread of coronavirus,” Koushos concluded.
Earlier on Saturday, the spokesman had said that the package would be announced by Wednesday the latest.
