The Transport Ministry is preparing to charter a cargo airplane to bring medical supplies from China for the health services and other government departments, Minister Yiannis Karousos told the Cyprus News Agency on Friday.
He said the ministry was waiting for lists of the supplies needed and would be chartering a cargo plane as this was the quickest way to get it to Cyprus.
The main priority is to ensure the Health Ministry has the supplies and equipment it needs to cope with coronavirus cases at the hospitals.
Earlier today, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou told CyBC that Cyprus still has stocks but that these are being depleted. He added that Cyprus had raised the issue weeks ago at EU level having seen the spread of Covid-19 and the need for supplies and the EU is also active in procuring supplies.
But health professionals told philenews that there was a problem and appealed for quick action.
