Coronavirus: Suspect case at Limassol Hospital tests negative

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou announced on Monday evening that a young Indian national in quarantine at Limassol Hospital has tested negative for the coronavirus.

In a message of Twitter, Ioannou said that another four samples had come back negative. He did not elaborate.

“I would like to warmly thank the personnel of the Institute of  Neurology and Genetics for their immediate response,” he said.

The latest update came about six hours after Ioannou said that a suspect coronavirus case was being examined at Limassol Hospital.

He said that the individual, an Asian national,  had returned from Milan on February 25 where he had stayed for one month and may have come into contact with a confirmed case. He had self-isolated but developed a temperature and went to the hospital where he was placed in quarantine on the fifth floor in line with the protocol.

Two individuals he had come into contact with were also placed in isolation pending the results.

Also on Monday, the Health Ministry issued new instructions saying all people who have travelled to northern Italy in the past 14 days should self-isolate.

Previous instructions applied only to some areas in northern Italy (Veneto-Venice, Lombardy-Milan, Emilia-Romagna-Bologna and Piedmont-Turin) .

In a written statement, the epidemiological monitoring unit of the Health Ministry said that the coronavirus checks have been expanded to apply to all those who have visited areas of Italy north of Pisa, Rimini and Florence in the past 14 days.
