Coronavirus: ‘No exceptions’ for health certificate requirement to enter Cyprus says minister

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou has clarified that the requirement for a certificate showing that arriving passengers have tested and are clear of coronavirus will apply from 6 pm tomorrow with no exceptions.

In a post on Twitter and on Facebook, the minister said he has received a number of telephone calls about the new measures.

“Regarding flights arriving tomorrow for example at  18.05 or 18.25 etc, I would like to clarify that the decree for entry only for those who have tested for the coronavirus (state or state associate labs) will come into force on 18.00. No discount and no exception will be made,” he said.

Quizzed also on TV about the issue, the minister said that those who do not have such a certificate ‘should not even go to the airport’.

He added that airline companies have been notified and will not allow anyone without a certificate to board. “It’s the same  as when you don’t have a visa,” he said.

If by any chance someone without a certificate does board, they will not be allowed to disembark and airlines will be fined.

Those who do have a certificate will be quarantined for 14 days, he added.
